Fernand Petiot is the man who is thought to have invented the much loved Bloody Mary cocktail in 1921, while was working at the New York Bar in Paris; it later became Harry’s New York Bar, which was a frequent Paris hangout for Ernest Hemingway.
The original cocktail is said to have been a spur of the moment cocktail creation, according to the bar’s own traditions, consisting only of vodka and tomato juice.
